Back

Red, Gary and I reached the Canadian border around 2:00 pm last Sunday, on a cold, wet day. We'd walked 16 miles in the drizzle of a Cascade fog after waking up to a very wet camp. None of us doubted that we'd walk the extra seven miles to the lodge at Manning Park in hopes of finding warm, dry accommodations. The trail gods were with us and we landed rooms and began decompressing from the day's long walk and the previous weeks' varied experiences.

A few days at Manning, a bus ride to Vancouver, a day wandering about a large city and a flight back to Phoenix have pretty much removed me from the trail but I am still disoriented and will take a while to resume this other life that involves affairs, events, money and more than two other people. I have much to write about and will start posting as I figure out what I have.

In the meantime it's good to be warm, dry and stationary.

glad to hear that you are dry, warm and stationary too. dry especially can be a problem up there.

in your absence i am taking a very unusual step for me. i am going to attend a candlelight vigil outside kyl and mcCain's offices on tuesday. probably nothing will come of it. but, they do need to know that there are more than a few of us who don't agree with what they are doing. i don't expect any change to result, i don't even hold a lot of hope that it will make me feel much better about anything. something compels me to be there this time.

i just returned from the rez, it's still beautiful.

(my code word thingie this second try was "dikbi" time for hullabaloo!)
