William Calley, My Lai and Lockerbie

Over at Tom Dispatch Nick Turse has probably the most insightful take on William Calley's remorse for My Lai.

REZ DOG,
When I returned to Benning in 71 Calley was a hero to the post and surrounding community. There were huge banners downtown voicing support for him.
He was in Custer Terrace under house arrest and the MPs allowed women to spend the nite with him.
The last time that I eyeballed him he was rather fat. His wife reportedly wouldn't let their kids play with toy guns. Now that is a hoot.
